Differences Between Thin Sheet and Profile Sheet Metal Processing

Explanation of Sheet Metal Processed Cabinets from the Application Perspective

With the adoption of transistors, integrated circuits, and the miniaturization of various components, the structure of sheet metal-processed cabinets has also evolved towards miniaturization and modularization. Cabinets have transitioned from the traditional full-panel design to modular plug-in and insert structures, available in a defined range of sizes. The assembly and arrangement of plug-ins and inserts can be divided into two main types: horizontal arrangement and vertical arrangement. Cabinet materials include thin steel sheets, steel profiles with various cross-sectional shapes, aluminum profiles, and various engineering plastics. The cabinet frame can be constructed using welding, screw connections, or even adhesive bonding techniques.

Typically, cabinets are made of cold-rolled steel sheets or alloy sheet metal and are used to house computers and related control equipment. They provide protection for the stored equipment, shield electromagnetic interference, organize and arrange the equipment in a structured manner, and facilitate future maintenance. Cabinets are generally categorized into server cabinets, network cabinets, console cabinets, etc. Based on the load-bearing capacity of the components, materials used, and manufacturing processes, cabinets can be classified into two basic structures: sheet metal and profile.

Sheet Metal Processed Cabinets
Differences Between Sheet Metal and Profile in Sheet Metal Processing
Sheet Metal Structure:
Description: This type features a single-sheet cabinet, where the side panel is formed from one continuous steel sheet that is bent into shape.
Strengths: It offers excellent rigidity and strength, making it suitable for heavy-duty or general-purpose equipment.
Drawbacks: The side panels are not removable, making assembly and maintenance less convenient.
Variations:
Cabinets with bent sheet metal columns are structurally similar to profile cabinets, but the columns are formed by bending steel sheets through sheet metal processing. These cabinets provide moderate rigidity and strength and are ideal for general equipment.
Cabinets can also be equipped with various accessories as needed, such as fixed or adjustable rails, locking mechanisms, hinges, cable troughs, cable racks, and shielding comb springs.
Profile Structure:
Types: Includes steel profile cabinets and aluminum profile cabinets.
Steel Profile Cabinets:
Constructed using custom-shaped seamless steel pipes as columns.
Strengths: Excellent rigidity and strength, ideal for heavy-duty equipment.
Aluminum Profile Cabinets:
Made from aluminum alloy profiles.
Strengths: Offers moderate rigidity and strength, suitable for general or lightweight equipment.
Advantages: Lightweight, requires less processing, aesthetically pleasing, and widely used.
As businesses continue to raise their standards for sheet metal processing, improvements in sheet materials and cabinet assembly methods are constantly being made. As manufacturers of sheet metal processing products, these companies are also undergoing continuous iterations as part of the industry’s ongoing advancements.
