ul standards for electrical enclosures

UL standards for electrical enclosures are based primarily on UL 50E (Standard for Testing the Protection Grades of Enclosures for Electrical Equipment),

which uses the IP code system to define the dust and water resistance of enclosures.

Protection level classification

Dustproof level (IP code first position):
0: No protection
1: Protect against objects with diameter > 50mm
2: Protect against objects with diameter > 12.5mm
3: Protect against objects with diameter > 2.5mm
4: Protect against objects with diameter > 1mm
5: Dustproof (limited)
6: Completely dustproof

Waterproof level (IP code second position):
0: No protection
1: Drip-proof
2: Drip-proof
3: Spray-proof
4: Splash-proof
5: Low-pressure water jet-proof
6: Strong water flow immersion (1 meter depth, 30 minutes)
7: Water immersion (any depth)
8: Long-term immersion (more than 1 meter depth)

Test requirements

The housing must pass mechanical strength, sealing and environmental adaptability tests, including:
Mechanical shock and vibration: simulate vibration and collision during transportation and installation.
Sealing test: verify the housing’s ability to protect against liquids and solids.
Temperature and humidity: evaluate stability in extreme temperature and humid environments.
Compliant with UL 50E Standard housings can adapt to a wider range of usage scenarios, such as outdoor equipment, industrial control equipment, etc. Of course, if you have a need for a customized UL housing, you can choose to cooperate with Mulan Group. Mulan Group has 12 years of experience in sheet metal housing manufacturing and processing, helping customers in more than 30 countries to complete the production of various sheet metal housings and has received unanimous affirmation. Of course, we also support various certifications and look forward to your cooperation consultation.
