What are the disadvantages of hot-rolled steel

The main disadvantages of hot-rolled steel are reflected in surface quality,

dimensional accuracy, and mechanical properties:

Rough surface

During the high-temperature rolling process, the steel surface easily oxidizes, forming scale, resulting in a rough and poorly finished surface.

Low dimensional accuracy

Due to thermal expansion and contraction and cross-sectional temperature differences, dimensional tolerances are large (±0.1 to ±2.5 mm), making it difficult to meet high-precision requirements.

Weak mechanical properties

Granular grains result in yield strength typically 10 to 20% lower than cold-rolled steel. Residual stresses also exist, potentially causing deformation or cracking.
