Rivets are essential in sheet metal fabrication, connecting various sheet metal components to form a single unit.
There are four common types of rivets:
Blind rivets
Use a single-sided riveting method and require a rivet gun. They are available in open, closed, and double-drum types. The open type with a flat round head is the most widely used and is suitable for applications such as construction, automotive, and marine applications.
Drive rivets
Rivets are achieved by hammering the core of the rivet, eliminating the need for specialized tools. They are suitable for use in confined spaces or where a rivet gun is unavailable. They are available in combinations of aluminum, aluminum-steel, and stainless steel.
R-type plastic rivets
Composed of a plastic male rivet and a female rivet, they require no tools for installation. They secure lightweight materials (such as plastic housings and circuit boards) using expansion pins. They are suitable for applications such as electronic equipment and automotive interiors.
Fan rivets
Made of elastomer, they are manually installed using an interference fit. They are primarily used to secure heat sinks and chips in computer cases, providing vibration and noise reduction.
Rivets are an important fastener. Besides the above, there are also solid rivets, hollow rivets, semi-hollow rivets, structural rivets, and multi-layer rivets.
