What is the difference between etching and stamping

Etching and stamping are two distinct metalworking techniques, with the following key differences:

Process Principle

Etching removes metal material through chemical or physical methods (such as photochemical etching). It can produce complex patterns without a mold, offering high precision and low development costs.
Stamping relies on a pressure device and a mold to apply external force to the metal, causing plastic deformation. This requires specialized molds, resulting in high production efficiency but limited design flexibility.

Applications

Etching is suitable for precision parts (such as electronic components and nameplates) and complex patterns, and is particularly well-suited for mass production.
Stamping is more suitable for high-volume production (such as automotive parts and sheet metal processing), offering lower costs and the rapid production of simple shapes.

Processing Characteristics

Etching is not restricted by molds and can achieve full or partial engraving, as well as logo additions. However, its precision is significantly affected by the control of the chemical solution.
Stamping relies on molds, offering high production efficiency, but also limits pattern design and requires specialized tools.

Etching industry uses: (1) Precision filters, filter plates, filter cartridges, and filters for petroleum, chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries; (2) Metal drain plates, cover plates, flat pins, lead frames, and metal substrates for the electronics industry; (3) Precision optical and mechanical flat parts and spring parts; (4) Friction plates and other concave-convex flat parts; (5) Metal signs and metal decorative plates with complex patterns and exquisite crafts. Of course, both metal component processing techniques are commonly used in the industry, but they serve different application scenarios.
