The laser cutting thickness range of stainless steel depends on the equipment power and process parameters:
Conventional cutting range
0.8-8mm: Applicable to laser cutting machines below 3000W, such as 304 stainless steel, the conventional cutting thickness is in this range.
8-10mm: Oxygen-assisted cutting can achieve this thickness, but a thin oxide film will form on the cutting surface.
High-power equipment limit
12mm: 3000W models can be achieved by optimizing the spot diameter (0.4mm) and reducing the cutting speed (below 10mm/s).
20mm and above: Some 30,000-watt equipment can cut 50mm stainless steel, but it needs to be combined with high power, optimized beam quality and auxiliary gas.
Influencing factors
Power attenuation: After exceeding 5mm, the power utilization rate drops by more than 40%, and a closed-loop feedback system is required to maintain stable output.
Material properties: If the galvanized steel plate exceeds 8mm, the width of the heat-affected zone will increase.
Beam quality: The flat-top beam can increase the cutting thickness by 18%-25% compared with the traditional beam.
